ABOUT THE GATEWAY COMMUNITY
If there is one word that could describe Gateway, it is the word DIVERSE. One visit to Gateway and you will see that we are many people from many places. We have young and old. We have students and we have business owners. We have individuals who are new to the church, and some who have been in church their whole lives.
And yet, amidst our great diversity, we are one people. We are unified in our desire to learn from and follow Jesus. We are together in our service to our community and our God.
Unity amidst diversity.
No matter what your experience, no matter what your tradition, no matter what your background, you are invited to become a part of our church family. Just as you are.
WHO WE ARE
Our core values are those values that we keep in mind throughout all areas of our ministry.
We share our three core values with the larger Nazarene church. We strive to be CHRISTIAN, to represent HOLINESS, and to be MISSIONAL.

WHERE WE COME FROM
/ CORE VALUES
The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations.
We are a Great Commission church (Matthew 28:19-20). As a global community of faith, we are commissioned to take the Good News of life in Jesus Christ to people everywhere and to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) across the lands.

/ OUR MISSION
/ OUR BELIEFS
We believe in one God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.
We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.
We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
Our church congregation began meeting in the year 2000 under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Ottley. Along with some founding members, Pastor Steve branched off from Rosewood Church of the Nazarene in Toronto to start a new congregation in Whitby, Ontario. Like most church plants, we first met in homes, and then began renting space in local schools. After meeting in three different schools in the town of Whitby, Gateway finally purchased our own facility.
Just in time for our 15th anniversary, we moved into our current home at 470 Ritson Road South in Oshawa.
Gateway is a member of the Church of the Nazarene, a christian denomination that was founded in 1908. A full and detailed history of the CoTN can be found here.
The first Nazarene church was built in downtown Los Angeles, and focused on ministering to families from the inner cities, those who might be considered the 'down and outers'. 107 years later, Gateway continues to focus on ministering to families, with a focus on wellness & wholeness.
